you might want to check out gpsbabel for getting the tracks off the m241... Support for the m241 hasn't made it to the release yet, but if you grab the source from CVS and compile it, it works quite nicely... It's also got a gui front-end (nicer than bt747), which last I checked didn't have the options for the m241, but it's not too difficult to add them in...

I found the error. The entry for the Qstarz Q1000P should be tty.iBT-GPS-SPPSlave-1 with a capital S on Slave otherwise it won't work. Once I changed the command script it was fine. I didn't think OSX was case sensitive like that.

Many thanks for your help

Andrew, if you list (using Terminal) all the files in the /dev directory, do you see an entry with the name
tty.iBT-GPS-SPPslave-1
and if yes, what happens if you use the cat command on that device?

Help!

I have followed your instructions, and everything worked until I started BT747. I got a response from my GPS, but I keep getting the message below when I force it to use the right port (Qstarz 1000P) or the same message but for the USB driver when I don't. Any ideas! This is on an Intel Mac Mini with 10.5.4.

Thanks for a really nice survey!

Currently I'm using gpsbabel and gpsphotolinker respectively to pull data from my globalsat dg-100 and batch geotag my raw CR2s. However, and as you also mentioned, gpsphotolinker can be a bit unstable sometimes and it's slow every time. This is still a two step process, though.

Sometimes I need to manually tagging the odd batch. I do it with google earth and geotagger, but it's a bit of a boring process.

I'll have a closer look at geophoto. I dismissed it because I figured it was specifically geared towards iphoto/apperture users (which I'm not). Hopefully I can reduce my toolset to two tools, of geophoto is good enough for what I need.

Thanks again for this informative survey!

Cheers,
Pedro.

David, it looks like you're not using the latest version (v1.52). This problem occured in v1.48 because of an error in the start script.

how did you get the visual voicemail working? I called Swisscom, they have reset my combox, I recovered the phone with firmware 2.0 and pwnage 2.0. At the moment i get the screen that asks me to setup the password and message for the voicmail settings. however, looks like it doesn't work as it cannot save the settings.

Thanks for the tutorial, I was thinking of tagging my pictures since a while.
Now, if only the iphone 3G could have a nice gps logging software, that would be perfect (one less hardware to have on hand) :D

Have a look at my recent post about geotagging tools on the Mac. It includes a few freeware and donationware tools that you might like.

I wanted to thank you for this write up. I had a Magellan Meridian handheld GPS lying around that has been given a new lease on life as a logger. I was able to successfully record a track to a small SD card and sync that track to some test pictures using GeoSetter.
